Funding
PALATINE Development Awards are funded in three instalments: the first at the start of the project, the second at around halfway through the project timetable (subject to satisfactory progress) and the third on successful completion of the project and delivery of outcomes and final report to PALATINE.
Please note that it is the award holder’s responsibility to ensure that PALATINE is invoiced by the hosting institution for each instalment of funding.
Invoices must be official invoices, issued by the hosting HE institution.
Please send invoices to:

Funding and reporting timetable
The funding and reporting timetable for PALATINE Development Awards follows this pattern:
- Start of project: Institution hosting the project should invoice PALATINE for the first instalment of funding.
- Progress report due one-third of way through project timetable.
- Subject to satisfactory progress report, hosting institution should invoice PALATINE for the second instalment of funding.
- Final report (for publication on the PALATINE website) due with delivery of project outcomes.
- Subject to satisfactory completion of project and delivery of completed outcomes and final report to PALATINE, hosting institution should invoice PALATINE for the third instalment of funding.
Progress reporting
Payment of the full award is conditional upon the satisfactory reporting to PALATINE on the progress of the project. PALATINE cannot approve payment of the second instalment until a satisfactory progress report has been received. It is the award holder’s responsibility to submit the progress report by the agreed date.
Please email the progress report to David Pearson in whichever file format is most convenient to you, or simply within the body of the email text if that is easier. For most projects, a report of one or two pages normally provides a sufficient summary of how work is progressing in relation to the proposal.
Here are some suggestions of questions that award holders might set out to answer while writing the progress report (they are not intended to be prescriptive but might be helpful in providing a focus for your updates to PALATINE).
- What have you been doing or what has the project achieved so far?
- Which parts of the project happened as planned/expected?
- Have there been any unexpected aspects to the project?
- Have you encountered any difficulties that you would like to mention?
- Is there anything you need to change about your project plan or projected completion date?
- How much of the funding have you spent? How have you spent it?
- Are there any interim findings/presentations/publications you can share with PALATINE?
Final report
For the final project report, which will be published on the PALATINE website, PALATINE does not specify a particular length, as the projects and their outcomes vary. The report must however reach PALATINE written and formatted to a publishable standard so that it can be published online without delay. Before being sent to PALATINE, all reports must have been proof-read and formatted either as a Word or PDF document.
Please include at the start of your report an email address and/or telephone number to enable people to reach you if they would like to find out more about the project.
Project outcomes
Award holders must send to PALATINE a copy (electronic, hard copy or URL) of any publication generated as a result of a Development Award. Citations to published work will be added to the PALATINE website as project outcomes.
Award holders must notify PALATINE of any acceptances at conferences of papers produced as a result of a Development Award. Acknowledgement of support from PALATINE should be given when presenting at conferences any work that was generated by a Development Award.
Award holders must ensure that any materials (such as DVDs, printed reports and learning resources) include the PALATINE logo and the following statement acknowledging the funding support from PALATINE:
This project was supported by a PALATINE Development Award. PALATINE is the Higher Education Academy Subject Centre for Dance, Drama and Music.
Any printed matter produced to accompany audio-visual materials (e.g. labels, inserts, information sheets) must be sent to PALATINE in electronic format to enable PALATINE to produce additional copies of the materials if required.
PALATINE reserves the right to withold payment of the third instalment until the outcomes and final report are delivered according to the agreed timetable and as described above.
PALATINE logo files
The PALATINE logo is available in colour or black and white, in all major image formats. The high-quality JPEG file below is suitable for most uses, but other formats are sometimes required for reproduction or editing software. Select one of the image files below by clicking to open or right-clicking to save. Contact David Pearson if you require a file format not provided here (e.g. TIF or PSD).
