Details
PALATINE, the Subject Centre for Dance, Drama and Music, is organising a 2-day workshop in October 2007 for newly, or recently (i.e. within the past 2 years), appointed lecturers in Drama and Theatre Studies. This is the first of what will be an ongoing series of events to support new and early career lecturers in our three main disciplines of dance, drama and music.
The course is free to qualifying participants. All costs* will be met by PALATINE inclusive of accommodation and meals.
The aims of the event are:
To offer new, or recently appointed drama/theatre studies academic staff an opportunity to reflect on and share their experiences of being a university teacher.
To help drama/theatre studies academic staff address the main issues involved in providing a teaching session for students.
To consider in detail aspects of the following:
- assessment and evaluation
- course design and planning
- teaching methods
- principles, ethics and values
To provide an opportunity for delegates to network with other new/recently appointed drama/theatre lecturers
To highlight solutions and support for learning and teaching available from the Higher Education Academy.
There are a limited number of places**, and therefore applications will need to meet the following criteria.
- The post must be a ‘first time’ post, taken up since September 2005.
- The application must be accompanied by a short statement (no more than a paragraph or two) on your reasons for wishing to attend the event.
- The application must be supported with the signature of your Head of Department (or equivalent).
- The applicant agrees to provide, within six months, a short report on the impact of the event on their pedagogic thinking and practice.
* PALATINE will cover reasonable travel costs (e.g. standard return rail fair or nearest equivalent), Friday night accommodation and meals.
** If demand for places outstrips the number of places available, attendance will be restricted - in the first instance - to one participant per department. Following that, selection will be based on the 'Reasons for attending' section of the application form. The deadline for applications was 21 September 2007 and delegates will be notified by 27 September 2007
Please note that on confirmation of your place at this event a refundable reservation fee of £30 (preferably via an institutional or personal cheque), made out to 'PALATINE', will be required to secure the booking. The fee/cheque will be returned on arrival at the workshop. Please do not send the booking fee before your place is confirmed
