The focus of this project is the development of a web-based toolkit providing Personal Development Planning materials specific to Dance and Drama disciplines for use by students and by staff, either within or alongside the curriculum. The material will promote the benefits and relevance of PDP processes both for developing employability skills, and for life-long personal development and professional practice.

Employability initiatives frequently encourage explicit articulation of how academic skills transfer to workplace contexts, and promote the linking of curriculum material to work-based scenarios. These paper and on-line resources will emphasise these links, and support personal development processes such as skills articulation, in depth reflection on learning, and action-planning to explore career options. Outcomes for students will include enhanced self-awareness, broadening of career ideas, practice in self-presentation and networking skills, together with increased confidence in the value of their studies in the longer term.

The materials will be developed and presented electronically in an engaging and student-friendly format, including filmed clips of alumni describing their roles and links to a wide range of information, thus enhancing students’ motivation, aspiration and engagement with early career exploration.

The project will build on existing PDP materials developed by the University of Northampton for Drama students over a number of years, and on a similar pack of materials produced for English students which can be viewed at http://pdp.northampton.ac.uk/English/index.html
